Ok, not only the great late breaking news that the Canadian's Women's Hockey Team has been in Jasper for the week, practicing prior to the Vancouver 2010 Games both in our Arena and on the frozen lake (yes, that them in the pic, practicing on the frozen ponds like we all did growing up!)...but we have a number of other connections as well.
Pete Bridge, our Zamboni driver at the Jasper Arena, who had been recognized by the Oilers as a great ice maker (and hence their regular trips to Jasper for some pre-season training camps), was then referred to the organizers of the 2010 Games and alas, Pete is in Vancouver as we speak! He is making the ice at UBC and then he moves on to GM Place. You may not get to see him on the ice during the games as he will be a supervisor but are we excited that he is there representing Jasper!
Also, a local family, the Blocks will be at the games as volunteers! Janet will be at the sports information desk for the men's hockey, while her husband Rob and their children will be working right on that ice checking for cracks during the games!

They will be practicing at the Japser Arena all week except Thursday and will be paying against the Hinton Midget Girls team on Wednesday night at 6pm! Come and check it out!!
