Record Snowfall!

Jasper's Marmot Basin has an amazing amount of snow already - a base of over 100 cms - which usually is the base in February, nevermind November! We have had 99 cm of snowfall in the last 9 days.

Check out the snow and Marmot's webcam here!

Weather forecast - Amazing!

Predicted to be 21 degrees clesius tomorrow and sunny all day!

What a perfect reason to gather up your friends and family and head to Jasper. Jet up the Tramway for a rarely seen view of Mount Robson in BC, ride side-car on a Harley Tour, take a dip in the heated outdoor pool at the JPL, hike or bike on one of our many trails. Whatever you do, be sure to reward yourself by capping off your day at one of Jasper's fine restaurants.

Jasper...a better place to enjoy this weekend!

Icefield Helicopter Tour - Amazing!

My boyfriend and I were going down to Lake Louise for the night so I thought, why not take the opportunity to stop in and see Ralph at Icefield Helicopter Tours and take my first helicopter ride!

Us after the first ride, where we snowshoed along the river to a beautiful frozen waterfall.

The view to the left as we flew over Cline Glacier.

Abraham Lake

That's me in the front seat!

Video:
We took about the 20 minute Cline Glacier Tour with a one hour Snowshoe Stop. This video is along the North Saskatchewan river back to the Cline Heliport. (Cline River Heliport is on Highway 11 - 42 kms from Saskatchewan Crossing at the Icefields Parkway. About a 2 hour drive from Jasper and just over 1 hour from Lake Louise) Amazing!

Do an Icewalk!

Jasper is known as a great winter destination mostly due to the popularity of skiing and boarding...

But how about an Icewalk? Imagine yourself walking on a frozen river bottom gazing up at enormous waterfalls suspended in their solid form; beautful images in ice. The Maligne Canyon Icewalk is an experience that is uniquely Jasper. Nowhere else do you get to actually traipse along the river itself.
Three tour companies in Jasper will lead you into the gorge morning, noon, and even under the moonlight. Check it out here to see what you could be doing in Jasper soon!

"Jasper: Beer, Bears, and Beautiful Glaciers"

I took that line from the following very entertaining travel blog. Greg and Kim, two "Gap Year" students from the UK were winners of a contest, earning them the right to be contestants in "Challenge Canada". We had the pleasure of hosting them to their Jasper Challenges here earlier this month. Check out their great blog on Jasper here: http://blogs.gapyear.com/index.php?op=vt&t=4469&u=

An excerpt from a Thank You note to Currie's Guided Fishing, Jasper

From: Chris Ellis

Subject: Thank You!!!

Dear Currie's,
I wanted to thank you for the great trip my son and I had on our half day trout fishing trip on Friday July 22, 2008. Derrick was our guide and was a great host for us. He was a delight to be around and was loaded with all the right information to any question that we asked. He was great with my seventeen year old and made it a great day for the both of us.

Please give Derrick a pat on the back from Ryan and Chris. We had a great time. If we are ever up in Jasper again Currie's Guiding will be our first call without even thinking about the competition.
Thanks for the great time,
Chris Ellis

Chasing Clean Air leads her to Jasper!

Clean Air Blogger, Donna Barnett from Los Angeles came to Jasper this week to take a breath of our fresh Rocky Mountain air. Donna blogs about all her travels to clean air destinations and focuses on sustainability in those areas. I had the pleasure of meeting her yesterday and she raved about Jasper, Rocky Mountaineer, The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, Maligne Canyon, Evild Dave's Restaurant (recent winner of a Jasper Environmental Stewardship award) and most of all - the people here in Jasper. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw her pick up from smoggy LA and start breathing easier up here in Jasper permanently! Please check out her blog at: http://www.chasingcleanair.com/chasing_clean_air/2008/08/welcome-to-jasp.html

Jasper Covered in Explore Magazine!

Further to my last post on the Tonquin Valley, check out another great photo of the Ramparts and Amethyst Lake in the Tonquin Valley - it just happened to be on the cover of Explore Magazine in June!
ps. They also named Jasper as home to 3 of their 50 Favourite places in that issue, The Tonquin, Wilcox Pass, and Jasper Rock Cut.

Tonquin Valley July 2008

I finally hiked into the Tonquin Valley this past weekend for the first time! It has to be one of the most beautiful hikes in Jasper National Park. The weather was perfect for hiking, sunny but not too hot. The snow covered Ramparts were beautiful as well as Amethyst Lake at the base. We even saw Caribou - another first time for me! Check out the amazing views we had!

Welcome to the Jasper Tourism Blog!

Well, for our first blog, I thought I'd use someone else's words. I came across an article today in a small community newspaper in North Carolina and thought I'd share an excerpt with you.

Canadian Rocky Mountain High

" Then it was on to the town of Jasper in the Canadian Rockies. Traveling through British Columbia and Alberta, on VIA Rail Canadian was a grand experience. Great crew, great food and awesome scenery what more could you ask for in a train ride? After debarking in Jasper, Alberta, we rented another car and set out for four days of adventure in the Canadian Rockies. Folks, there aren’t enough adjectives in the English language to describe how I felt about the region, but Ill try. How about this beautiful cascading waterfalls, majestic snow-capped mountains, abundant, sometimes approachable wildlife, gorgeous flowers, and exciting adventures just scratch the surface of what we saw and experienced."
Ron Mack, Cherokee Scout

Come back often to read our regular posts. Have a great day and remember Jasper. Wonderful. By Nature.
